Sickies...
I just have to add this in... it's a comic clip I once picked up in Melbourne City Weekly.. and it goes "it's work karma... everytime I take a sicky I'm not sick, but everytime I take annual leave I am!" heheee... so word of the day, never take sickies unless u are really sick ! I am very proud to say I average between 0-1 sickie a yr... :-P
When Men Pay Attention to What You Wear
Has a man ever checked the label on your clothes? My most recent account of this was my love looking at the linen jacket I had placed on the chair. He picked up the jacket, checked the label wondering what it was and asked. It was all very cute.. and pleasant I might add. Maybe it's the way he did it with a curious appearance on his face. It was lovely though, him openly expressing that he liked what I wore, that nice feeling of flattery coming from a man. But what about the rest of my outfit? An outfit isn't complete without the right accessories. Yes shoes are as equally important, from colour quality height and type (should they be open toed? mules? pumps? ankle-wrapped? how wide should the heel be?), the right bag size and shape.. the right necklace and its material...... these were all important considerations which I'm sure men don't realise but show their appreciation only by staring! heheee.. An outfit is only a great outfit when the wearer wears it with confidence! And it is the wearer that makes the outfit.
Technology, Typewriters and Work - were people more patient in the old times?
My previous post is about fastforward tech! ....
I was just thinking how we live by our emails, to communicate more quickly .. but then what about those hundreds and hundreds of emails you return to after a 1mth holiday from work.. only to hit the Delete button for most after spending a good half day going through the emails and overloading your brain with updates and more updates. And what about patience? When we move from one computer program to another, running 5 programs all at the same time, we expect everything to work in the blink of an eye, and we have no patience to wait if something happens to be 'slower'. So how was it like 15yrs ago? Back then, I was still in uni. I am pretty certain that the company I work for today didn't even have a website then. I wonder, did people at my work just process a lot less info, do things in a slower manner, have that patience to be able to wait for information to come to them? Everything as a record had to be on paper, tedious, handwritten, or typed. Yes there were typewriters in the offices in those days. Do people even use typewriters nowadays other than those law court reporters? If yes, why? Is it perhaps the fear of using a computer and possibly losing information in cyberspace whilst the use of a typewriter keeps in information within your own private space? emm, speaking of typewriters, I still have one. Well I should sell it because it's only taking up space. Anyway, when I started working for my company, there were no email for clients which means that requests would at least have to come via hardcopy. And yes it's true, the more technologically advanced we are..the more busier we all become. I also find that when I catch up with my friends and do the usual 'how have you been?", the first word you tend to hear is "busy".. and then going around the table.. it's about who is busier than who. What's this? A competition for busy-ness?

Technology, Apple, iPod, iPhone, iTunes, iSlate.....
Just recently I read in the Washington Post that release of Apple's long awaited tablet is scheduled for Jan2010.... yes it's the newest gadget from those brilliant people at Apple. So what is it? From what I hear and rumours abound, it might be called the iSlate since Apple has registered the website islate.com. It's basically a larger size version of the iPod Touch.
So here I am, staring at my glorious powerbook and wondering how things would be like 10 yrs from now ... would people be communicating all online or via their smart phones? Will everything be paperless ? Will there still be bills sitting in your snailmailbox? No need for stamps? It's amazing how technology moves... in 1995 I first experienced the Internet at my Uni library. It was all very basic in those days, no google, blogging, youtube or wikipedia. Although I was quite excited to be able to watch a clip of Lion King's "hakuna matata" and was showing that to every possible human being who were equally amazed. Some of these search engines we see in those days have all but disappeared.. but everything now can be found online. I am also certain that I can search for contact details of what I want and correctly too (and.. with pictures, reviews etc etc) by going online than looking at whitepages (hardcopy i.e.). What about mobile phones? I remember my Japanese friend during uni years telling me how the Japanese were already using mobiles on their wrists (yes as watches). And these days, kids in primary schools have mobiles... it's like a norm. I had my first mobile in uni. Then there's VOIP.......for those of you who do not know what that is, it stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. And skype is the way to go. Who knows what tech awaits us when we fast forward 10yrs... but we do know that Smartphones and Internet going hand-in-hand making our lives ever more productive, efficient and giving us the ability to share knowledge through this bond online. I will start a new blog about tech and work. Read next.. .

the movie 'Up'
A blog dedicated to this beautiful film from Disney-Pixar.... I have it on DVD, so in a way I was lucky to be able to go back to the first 10mins of the opening scenes and watch it all again. There are 2 other films I remember where the opening scenes completely captures you in this manner. One was 'Finding Nemo' when Coral was eaten by that nasty barracuda, and the other 'Batman Begins' when Bruce Wayne's parents were mugged and shot. Anyway I thought about posting my review on Up on IMDB website, but decided not to since any spoilers would have ruined it for the audience. I wanted everyone out there who hadn't seen it to go see it, and to see it without knowing anything about the film other than it's title! heh. I truly believe that anyone whatever age they are will be able to relate to the film in many ways... the feeling of adventure, achieving all dreams, the honesty to do all the right things, complete devotion, and how people whom you meet at any point in life can make huge positive changes. Some of the changes may not be understood at first glance, but like the film... it is only time when one will eventually come to realise. Look outside YOUR life and those new experiences can be life changing for all the good ways. And love transcends all boundaries. "Trucs a faire" - french for Things to Do! If those things you do are what you share with, and with ones whom you truly love, then in life you are truly lucky. And this film captures all of that. Enchanting and beautiful, it's 10/10.
the first blog
Today is the 27th Dec 2009...... and I have just seen a whole lot of films in the last 48hrs. Yes every year when Boxing Day arrives, it feels like the entire city goes into a relaxation mode, other than the sales-addicts who head to malls and shopping centres. Is it really worth waking up at 5am and when the doors finally open some hours later, you get trampled upon in that heated excitement? That's right, I've never done the Boxing Day sale saga primarily because I'm claustrophobic.. and the thought of been squashed amongst screaming females isn't quite so appealing. And so, from Boxing Day onwards till today.... I've gone through a very quiet period and decided to watch films continuously. I think I'm ready to rate the top films of 2009 as well. Let's see, a week ago, I saw Avatar in 3D Gold Class woot !!! What a stunning film it is. And so, in no particular order other than Avatar.... Up, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Seven Pounds, Slumdog Millionaire, The Hangover, and State of Play. The most enchanting film this year I believe belongs to 'Up', this is a simply beautiful beautiful film. I think anyone who's watched it would agree, that after you've seen it.. you would want to watch it all again. I think this movie deserves its own blog...
